About brand

Sunday launched in Boulder, Colorado, in 2019, started by brothers Coulter and Trent Lewis after Coulter struggled to find a non-toxic way to care for the lawn at his first home. A stroll down the fertilizer aisle turned into a wake-up call about how much of the industry still relies on chemicals, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers to get a green lawn. That gap between what people wanted and what stores actually sold on the shelf became the starting point for the company.

Coulter’s background is in engineering and product design, and that shows up in how the products are built. Plant scientist Frank Rossi from Cornell was brought in to help develop formulas meant to work as an alternative for the roughly 180 million Americans who have a lawn to care for. Rather than relying on brute-force chemical treatments, the formulas are built around soil science, using nutrient sources such as seaweed, iron, and potassium that organic farmers have relied on for years, and skipping compounds like glyphosate, imidacloprid, bifenthrin, and trifluralin that show up in a lot of traditional lawn products.

The lineup has grown past fertilizer into pest control and garden care, all built around the same standard: effective for the yard, safe for the people and animals using it. Formulas are also built with regional soil and climate differences in mind, since a lawn in the Northeast doesn’t need the same treatment as one in Texas or California. Ten thousand-plus customer reviews back up the results, and the company has grown enough to land shelf space at major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Home Depot alongside direct online sales — proof that a chemical-free approach to a green lawn holds up outside a lab.

FAQ

Does a pesticide-free formula actually work as well as traditional chemical fertilizers?

A pesticide-free formula focuses on feeding the lawn so it grows thick enough to crowd out weeds naturally, rather than eliminating everything on contact. Results build over a full season rather than overnight, but they hold up without the health risks tied to synthetic alternatives.

How long after applying is it safe for kids and pets to be on the grass?

Once the product dries on the lawn, typically within a couple of hours depending on weather, the yard is safe for regular use. No waiting periods measured in days, and no signage required like with restricted-use pesticides.

What happens if it rains right after applying?

Light rain shortly after application can wash away some of the treatment before it has a chance to absorb, reducing effectiveness. Checking a short-range forecast before spraying and avoiding application within a few hours of expected rainfall gets the most out of each treatment.

How is the hose-end sprayer different from spreading granular fertilizer by hand?

The hose-end sprayer mixes the concentrate with water automatically while walking the yard, covering the full square footage listed on the label without measuring or calibrating a spreader. It takes less time and avoids the uneven patches that come from hand-spreading granules.

Will this actually work on weeds that are already established?

These formulas are built around feeding grass rather than targeting existing weeds directly, so a lawn already overrun with weeds may need a separate spot treatment first. Once grass fills in and thickens, new weed growth gets crowded out over time.

Is a formula built for one region going to work in a different climate or soil type?

Formulas are built around specific regional soil and climate data, so a blend made for the Northeast won’t perform the same way in Texas or the Southwest. Checking the product label against a specific zip code before ordering avoids applying the wrong nutrient mix for local grass and soil conditions.

How soon should color and thickness improvements actually show up?

Visible color changes typically appear within one to two weeks of the first application, with thicker growth and fuller coverage developing over four to six weeks. Full-season results depend on consistent watering and reapplying on the schedule listed on the product.

What’s the difference between the tick and mosquito spray and typical synthetic pest control?

The cedar oil-based formula repels and eliminates pests on contact without leaving behind synthetic residue that lingers in soil and groundwater. Coverage lasts around four weeks per application, similar to many synthetic sprays, but without the same restrictions on when pets and kids can return to treated areas.

Testimonials

Real yards, treated with these formulas, tell the story better than any label claim. Three homeowners share what changed after switching away from synthetic lawn care.

Switched over about three months ago after years of Scotts and Roundup. My lawn hasn’t looked this even since I moved in. No more worrying about the dog rolling around right after I spray something.

Mark Donovan, 51

I was skeptical a hose attachment could replace a spreader, but the coverage has been consistent every time. Bare patches by the mailbox finally filled in after the second application.

Kevin Ashworth, 36

Started using this after my youngest started asking to lie in the grass right after we mowed. Color came in within a couple weeks and I haven’t seen a single weed patch spread since spring.
